The Estate Story

190 years of Michigan history.

This isn't just a venue. It's a legacy property — farmstead, horse-racing estate, fire survivor, and now Michigan's most storied wedding destination.

1832

The Blum Arrival

Phillip Petrus Blum crosses from Bavaria and settles in Bridgewater Township, Michigan. He builds a stone farmhouse from fieldstone pulled from these fields — that house still stands today.

1960s

The Hoffa Connection

Jimmy Hoffa's personal attorney acquires the property and transforms it into a private horse-racing estate: a half-mile training track, 40+ racehorses, and a swimming pool built for the horses. This is when the estate identity is born.

1980s–2014

The Buter Era

The Buter family takes ownership. Harness racing continues — champion trotters and pacers trained on the same grounds. The horse legacy deepens.

2014

The Barbus Arrive

George & Mirela Barbu purchase the property. Their daughter Rachel walks the barn and announces she will be married there. The seed of a wedding estate is planted.

2026

Fire. Then Comeback.

In January, fire destroys the original event barn. The 1832 stone house survives. Four months later — The Stables opens and celebrates its first post-fire wedding. The estate is back.

2027

The Chapel

The original barn footprint restored as a modern indoor chapel — a dedicated ceremony space alongside The Stables. Two venues. One legendary estate.

"No other Michigan wedding venue has this story."
